Whether your production requirements are low, medium, or high volume, and you have or need a powder coating process in your company, color change flexibility is always an issue to be addressed. Certainly the needs of the company will vary based on the volume of coating to be accomplished. Likewise, the methods of color changes vary accordingly based on the volume of coating to be performed. As such, many companies are not aware of available options that offer efficiency and flexibility. This presentation will provide a non-commercial analysis of color change considerations and the various methods and best practices for achieving color change flexibility. The session will be broken into two sections. Part I will focus on low production volume scenarios. Typically these powder coating operations use a single, or up to a few, manual guns and offer services that are considered “artistic or custom one-off” and are non-coveyorized production processes. Part II will move into conveyorized operations that may incorporate manual and/or automated equipment to meet the production throughput demands.
