3D/Additive Manufacturing

F131: Managing Materials for Finishing 3D Additive Manufacturing

Adding Sustainability into Manufacturing
In this session, the presenter will explore how 3D printing can curtail the environmental impact of manufacturing. He’ll discuss methods such as minimizing energy and material waste during product creation, streamlined prototyping to prevent errors, and establishing a circular supply chain by repurposing materials. In addition, he will share the benefits of reducing carbon emissions through onsite production eliminating the need for multiple suppliers and transportation. The presenter will also highlight technological advancements like carbon tracking and partnerships with third-party entities to reduce Scope 3 emissions, emphasizing their role in promoting sustainable operations.

Doing Better than IPA: Advances in Cleaning Materials for Additive Manufacturing Resins
This presentation examines 5 types of cleaning agents (IPA, Aqueous Detergents, Semi-Aqueous Cleaners, Modified Alcohol Solvents, and non-PFAS Halogenated Solvents) to determine which type of cleaning agent is best suited to be used in production scale 3D printing processes. It examines multiple factors including, static solubility with common uncured resins, cleaning efficacy in common cleaning processes, cleaning efficacy for parts with complex geometries, and compatibility with cured resin materials.
