F54: Cobots – the Automation Answer for Small – and Mid-sized Fabricators

Cobots give small- and medium-sized fabricators the freedom to automate high-mix, low-volume applications while improving productivity by 200 to 400%. With intuitive operation, cobots have revolutionized automated welding while addressing the foremost issues: improving productivity and finding more workers. With a cobot, fabricators can weld more parts without adding staff, improve quality and free-up skilled welders to concentrate on value-driven tasks. Cobots provide the benefits of automation without the historical complexity or costs associated i.e. full robotic cells. Robotic cells have their place; however, they are expensive, take up a large amount of space, require massive safety measures and are typically complex to set-up, program and operate. In contrast, cobots may be a better solution for that small to mid-sized fabricator because they can be deployed rapidly to address immediate needs. They can be set up and running within an afternoon and can be programmed and operated by current staff.
