Welding spool pipes presents unique challenges compared to welding structural beams. Unlike beams, pipes feature an open root that requires real-time control of the penetration depth. Additionally, the imperfections inherent in pipes mean that preparations are always a compromise, rendering each weld to be slightly unique. Achieving perfection in such conditions relies on the ability to dynamically adjust to these inherent irregularities. Real-time control over the weld pool is essential to achieve this. Trying to approach this problem by finding a way to make perfect and repeatable preparations has been unsuccessful. Instead, the solution lies in using a welding robot equipped with adaptive welding control. In our discussion, we will delve into the specific parameters that require to be analyzed and controlled in real time to succeed in this task.
Stamati Georgaris and Christian Trudel – Tecnar
Tecnar
Since 1991, Christian Trudel has been an integral part of Tecnar’s journey, initially as a mechanical technician. Over the years, he transitioned into designing and creating mechanical drawings for the Rotoweld pipe welding robot. His expertise expanded further into service and R&D, specializing in pipe spooling automation. Trudel’s enduring commitment has played a vital role in Tecnar’s innovative advancements in the field of welding automation.
Tecnar
Stamati spent 11 years as R&D electronic director at Tecnar, followed by 20 years in a successful robotics career, working on diverse projects from military to medical and industrial applications. Afterward, he returned to Tecnar as VP Rotoweld, drawing on his 32 years of experience to excel in automating complex processes with optimal and straightforward solutions.
