Many metalworking dusts are combustible, creating a fire and explosion hazard inside the facility and in the dust collection system and ductwork. Spark-producing applications such as welding, cutting and grinding create additional risk. Attendees will get a copy of A Visual Guide to Combustible Dust Collection. Participants in this session will learn; the elements of the “fire triangle” and “explosion pentagon” and the conditions under which a metal dust fire or explosion can occur; risks associated with combustible dust types in fabricating, including special risks of metal dust fires and explosions; mitigation methods, including spark arrestance and deflagration systems; OSHA and NFPA regulations for dust collection system design.
