WS01: How to Adapt Lean for Job Shops: A Boot Camp for Fabricators

*This conference session requires registration and payment.

The typical fabricator is a high-mix low-volume manufacturer and operates like a job shop NOT an assembly line. Unlike any of Toyota's assembly facilities, a job shop must have the capability to be efficient AND flexible AND agile AND adaptable AND reconfigurable. Is there an alternative to Lean? Enter Job Shop Lean! This 1/2 day boot camp will (1) give an overview of Job Shop Lean and the 5-step process used to implement it in any job shop, (2) demonstrate the use of software used to plan the implementation (3) engage the audience in a learning game that teaches core concepts and practices of Job Shop Lean and (4) present a case study to the audience. During the discussion for the case study, the audience will be challenged to suggest specific solutions to the problems in the Current State of a fabrication shop that were exposed by the data analysis.
