High-power 1-um fiber laser applications have steadily increased in output power over the last several years, where traditional fused silica optics are no longer sufficient in some applications. By taking advantage of sapphire's higher thermal conductivity and index of refraction, machine builders and integrators can overcome these limitations, realizing increased performance with these high average powers. With better thermal performance and more contamination resistance, sapphire optics can support the next generation of high-power 1-um applications.
