This presentation will review the manual oxy-fuel and plasma cutting processes and ultimately conclude that, because there is the right tool for every job, learning to use both processes remains foundational for the accomplished metalworker. I will also discuss how to optimize oxy-fuel and plasma cutting through the selection of correct cutting tips/electrode sizes and advice for adjusting gas flow/air pressure. Next, I will review the wide variety of consumables and techniques available to extend the flexibility of oxyfuel and plasma outfits, including those for gouging/swarfing, rivet head removal, removing old weld metal, beveling, and circle cutting. I will also show how to adapt manual systems for mechanized use. Throughout the presentation, I will provide techniques to improve your performance when cutting, piercing and gouging. As a bonus, I will conclude with tips and tricks for winning cutting contests.
