Overview

This presentation will discuss the advancements in high-power laser manufacturing including the study of physical mechanisms, novel process development, intelligent online sensing and control strategies, and prototype testing for turn-key systems for variable hybrid laser welding and additive manufacturing applications. And, data will be shared regarding a fully-automated hybrid laser/arc welding system installed at the world's largest rolling stock manufacturer.

    Biography
    Fanrong Kong has a Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Southern Methodist University (2009). He joined ESAB in 2013 and is currently the Global Technical Director of Laser Products at ESAB, Manager of the ESAB Advanced Joining Center at SMU, and Vice-Chair of the AWS-C7 Committee. His 18-year focus on high-power laser materials processing includes publishing 100 peer-reviewed laser manufacturing-related research articles and three book chapters.
