Mr. Ertle has been associated with Rockwell Laser Industries (RLI) since 1989, where he now holds the position of President & CEO. Bill has provided in-depth lectures and training presentations for numerous RLI Training Institute courses, industry conferences, as well as presentations for events such as the International Laser Safety Conference (ILSC), the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) the DOE LSO Workshop, Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratories, The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, IEEE/LEOS, OPTCON, and ALAC. Bill has also authored and co-authored numerous laser safety articles, and is one of the editors of the RLI series of laser safety guides and the RLI e-Learning library of courses. Bill served as the Chairman of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z136 Technical Subcommittee on Control Measures and Training (TSC-4) from 2003-2018, and has since served as the Vice Chair. He has been a voting member of the Z136 Standards Development Committee (formerly Accredited Standards Committee), the main Z136 committee, for over 30 years. Bill was elected by the National Committees, and approved by the Strategic Management Board of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), to serve as the Chair of Technical Committee 76, Optical radiation safety and laser equipment, in 2023, and previously served as the TC’s Secretary from 2008- 2023. The committee is responsible for publications within the 60825, 62471, 60601, and joint work with ISO in the 11553 and 19818 series of laser and LED safety standards involving laser equipment. Bill is an active member of the Laser Institute of America (LIA) and a former member of their Board of Directors. He is a Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) and a Certified Medical Laser Safety Officer (CMLSO) by the Board of Laser Safety, and is a Fellow in the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS). Bill is a graduate of Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH.
